The number of layoffs eased again last week, giving encouraging signs that the official unemployment rate released tomorrow will be as bad as expected. This is also an encouraging sign that the stop job losses could flatten out soon.
The number of people receiving ongoing unemployment help, climbed another record high, indicating that it is still difficult for people to find new jobs once they have been laid off.
In general, these data has shown that companies have eased their efforts to cut jobs, but have not begun to hire yet.
Current unemployment rate is 8.5% and is expected to rise to 8.9% on Friday.
